Mission

DDG 51 warships provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities. Destroyers can operate independently or as part of carrier strike groups, surface action groups, amphibious ready groups, and underway replenishment groups. Guided missile destroyers are multi-mission Air Warfare (AW), Undersea Warfare (USW), and Surface Warfare (SUW) surface combatants. Some DDGS have been outfitted with a Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) capability.
