XYZ Affair

The French declared a naval war, The Quasi War, against Americans, which was impossible since the US didn’t have a navy yet. Adams sends an ambassador to France to speak to Minister of State, Mr. Tallyrad, to prevent the Quasi War. He had three separate agents. Each agent charges $25,000 to speak to him, and when they finally reach Mr. Tallyrad, he demands a 12 million dollar loan just to stop the war. This incident is published in American presses, causes Americans to stop supporting the French, and consequently makes them also stop supporting Jefferson.
