Educational Technology

technology used for educational purposes such as teaching and learning

Assistive technology device

any item, piece of equipment, or product system that increases, maintains, or improves functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities

Assistive technology service

any service that directly assists an individual in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device

Assistive technology specialist

a person trained to provide active technology services to individuals with disabilities

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)

symbols, aids, strategies, and techniques used as a supplement or alternative to oral language

Print disabilities

disabilities that prevent an individual from gaining information from printed material; require the use of alternative methods to access the material

Instructional technology

an apparatus or device that supports the teaching-learning process, such as computers or televises; a tool for the delivery of instruction

E-text

an electronic presentation of a text, also known as a digital text, that can be read on a computer

Supported e-text

an e-text that allows for content to be presented in multiple modalities while providing additional supports
