SWOT Matrix
A strategic planning tool used to evaluate an organization's internal Strengths and Weaknesses, alongside external Opportunities and Threats.
Development Strategy (SO)
An offensive strategy created by crossing internal Strengths with external Opportunities to invest in growth and expand on what is already working.
Maintenance Strategy (ST)
A defensive strategy created by crossing internal Strengths with external Threats to use company strengths to neutralize environmental threats.
Growth Strategy (WO)
A strategy created by crossing internal Weaknesses with external Opportunities aimed at strengthening internal weak points to capitalize on market opportunities.
Survival Strategy (WT)
A strategy created by crossing internal Weaknesses with external Threats aimed at minimizing losses and reducing damage in highly vulnerable situations.
Ideal Business
A business classification in SWOT analysis characterized by high opportunities and low threats.
Speculative Business
A business classification in SWOT analysis characterized by both high opportunities and high threats.
Mature Business
A business classification in SWOT analysis characterized by low opportunities and low threats.
Troubled Business
A business classification in SWOT analysis characterized by low opportunities and high threats.
Task Environment
The operational environment directly surrounding the organization, consisting of clients, suppliers, regulatory entities, and competitors.
Organizational Macroenvironment
The general external environment containing political/legal, economic, social, technological, and international factors that affect strategic decisions.
