Thesis statement

Information that supports a claim and persuades others to believe you.

Supporting details

Pieces of information necessary to better understand the main idea, including facts, reasons, testimonies, statistics, and experiments.

Major Details

Details that directly support the topic sentence.

Minor Details

Details that directly support the major details.

Awkward thesis statement

A statement that states the obvious and usually starts with phrases like "I will tell you…" or "I will talk about…"

Topic sentence

A complete sentence with a clear subject that contains one detail related to information in the thesis statement.
