Partial or Selective Coverage

Low Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 100−134∘F (38−56∘C) and a maximum ceiling temperature of 80∘F (28∘C).
Ordinary Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 135−174∘F (57−79∘C) and a maximum ceiling temperature of 115∘F (47∘C).
Intermediate Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 175−249∘F (80−121∘C) and a White color code.
High Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 250−324∘F (122−162∘C) and a Blue color code.
Extra High Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 325−399∘F (163−204∘C) and a Red color code.
Very Extra High Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 400−499∘F (205−259∘C) and a Green color code.
Ultra High Temperature Classification
Heat detectors with a temperature rating range of 500−575∘F (260−302∘C) and an Orange color code.
Ambient Ceiling Temperature Buffer
The requirement that the temperature rating of a detector be at least 20∘F (11∘C) above the maximum expected temperature at the ceiling.
Smooth Ceiling 0.7 Rule
The design requirement that all points on a ceiling shall have a detector within a distance equal to or less than 0.7×S, where S is the listed spacing.
Irregular Area Spacing
A provision allowing spacing between detectors to exceed the listed spacing as long as the maximum distance to the farthest point of a sidewall or corner is not greater than 0.7 times the listed spacing.
