Resource
Everything available in our environment which can be used to satisfy our needs, provided it is technologically accessible, economically feasible and culturally acceptable.
Active Agents
Human beings who transform raw material provided by nature into something useful.
Technologically Accessible
The requirement that human beings have the tools and knowledge to reach and use a material.
Economically Feasible
The requirement that the cost of extraction should not outweigh the benefit of the resource.
Culturally Acceptable
The requirement that the society must be willing to accept the use of a material as a resource.
Interdependent Relationship
The interactive process of transformation involving nature, technology, and institutions, with humans acting as the link between them.
Institutions
Systems such as schools, factories, or laws built by humans to manage resources and accelerate economic development.
Biotic Resources
Resources obtained from the biosphere and which have life.
Abiotic Resources
Resources composed of non-living things, such as rocks and metals.
Renewable Resources
Also known as replenishable resources, they include continuous or flow resources like wind and water, and biological resources like forests and wildlife.
Non-Renewable Resources
Resources which can be recyclable (e.g., metals) or non-recyclable (e.g., fossil fuels).
Territorial Water
The area of water extending up to 12 nautical miles.
Quantity and Quality
Human resource components referring to the size of the population and their skills or knowledge, also known as human capital.
Structures
Organized systems like markets and industries that facilitate the management of resources.
Classification by Status of Development
A categorization of resources into potential, developed stock, and reserves.
