Locard’s Exchange Principle
States ‘When a person comes into contact with another person, thing, or place, they exchange physical evidence’
Trace Evidence
Tiny Fragments of physical evidence (ex: hair, clothing fibers)
Hair Evidence
A type of trace evidence that can provide information about a person’s age, race, and even gender. This can not 100% connect to a person, but it can rule out potential suspects.

Cuticle (outermost layer), Cortex (middle/intermediate layer), and medulla (innermost layer)
What can Hair follicles reveal?
→ Hair follicles can show how damaged the hair is, revealing if the hair has underwent treatments (ex. perming/keratin, hair dye)
→ Hair follicles can reveal specific medical conditions
→ Hair follicles can reveal hair color
Fingerprints Rule
No two people (even identical twins) have the SAME EXACT fingerprint
