Slope
The ratio of the rise (change in y) to the run (change in x) between any two points on a line.
Dependent Variable
A variable that depends on another variable, often represented on the y-axis.
Independent Variable
A variable that is manipulated or changed in an experiment, often represented on the x-axis.
Rate of Change
The ratio at which one quantity changes in relation to another; can be represented by slope.
Unit Rate
A type of rate in which the second quantity is one unit, expressing how much of one variable corresponds to one unit of another.
Rise over Run
A method of calculating slope by taking the vertical change (rise) divided by the horizontal change (run).
Exponential Growth
Growth whose rate becomes more rapid in proportion to the growing total number or size; often seen in bacterial reproduction.
Table Rate of Change
The rate of change calculated from data presented in a table format, indicating how the dependent variable changes relative to the independent variable.
Graph Slope
The slope of a line graphed on a coordinate plane, illustrating the relationship between two variables.
Average Rate of Change
A measure of how a quantity changes, calculated over a specific interval.
