What is extromission?
The idea that we see by somehow illuminating the world by our eyes.
Who proposed the idea of extromission?
Plato (400BC)
What is intromission?
That the eye is the receiver of light.
Who proposed the idea of intromission?
Aristotle (350 BC)
What did Euclid believe/propose?
He believed in extromission but proposed that light travels in straight lines.
What originates light?
Intromission.
The process of light:
Primary light → (light) → Illuminated object → (light) → Eye → (light) → Retina → (neural signal) → Lateral Geniculate Bodies → (neural signal) → Primary Visual Cortex → (???) Perceived image
What is vision?
Vision is based upon a neural response to light that enters the eye.
How does light travel?
Generally travels in straight lines called rays.
Geometric
Geometrical Model
Models light as straight lines (rays) that travel in straight paths and bend at surfaces through reflection and refraction.
What are examples of when the geometrical model is used?
Construction industry
Modern surverying use and assume they travel in straight lines
Lasers used is LASIK refractive surgery are assumed to travel in straight lines
