Three General Outcomes of Natural Selection
Three general outcomes are possible, depending on which phenotypes are favored:
1. directional selection
2. disruptive selection
3. stabilizing selection
Sexual Selection
A form of natural selection in which individuals with certain traits are more likely than other individuals to obtain mates
In some species, males engage in nonlethal combat in the hope of mating with females
Sexual dimorphism:
distinction in appearance based on secondary sexual characteristics, noticeable differences not associated with reproduction or survival
