how to calculate the sign test?

  • Sign: Record + for positive, - for negative, and 0 for no change.

  • Purge: Discard all 0s.

  • Count (N): Total the remaining + and - signs.

  • Score (S): Take the smaller of the two totals.

  • Match: Significant if S is less than or equal to the statistical table critical value.

critical value would either be one (directional) or two tailed (non directional)
