Purpose of Crime Scene Photography

To record an accurate description of the events that took place in the crime.

• Documentation

• Crime scene reconstruction

• Provide the jury with an understanding through visual aids

Photograph exterior,interior,intermediate photos, and close

Exterior: All four directions of street, building or vehicle and with surrounding area

Interior: Layout and four corners or doors of area/vehicle

Intermediate photos: How each item relates to immediate surrounding

Close up: Fill the frame and reduce background

Death Investigations and factors that can affect your scene

• weather

• clean up

• animal activity

• scene disruption from first responders

Report Writing

• Be specific and detailed ex: time, date, directionality (NSEW), exact information

• write in chronological order

• must be clear concise and accurate

• write facts rather than opinions
