-Mostly found around the neck or face. Adult looks like a bumble bee.
Cat warble (botfly maggot)
-A form of bacterium that is spherical or has a generally round shape
-Found in chains and clusters
-Typically stained purple

-Microscopic intestinal parasites of dogs and cats
-Rapid multiplication in the intestine wall causing pining to rupture
-Cause disease most common only in puppies and kittens less than six months old
Cocida (genus isospora or Eimeria)
-A minute arachnid that can overpopulated hair follicles to cause manage and hairless Ness
-Severe cases cause inflammation irritation and stimulation of gland secretions
-Typically affect dogs and cats

-A surface mite Typically found in the ear of some mammals
-Microscopic
-Highly contagious
-Lives on cats and dogs (as well as having been found on foxes rabbits and ferrets)
Ear Mite (Family Psoroptidae; Genus Otodectes)
Type of white blood cell generally has a nucleus with two lobes and cytoplasm filled with large granules that are typically dark in color will be about three times the size of red blood cells and appear more grainy.
Eosinophils
Large blobby cell with a small nucleus that does not need to be in any particular place in the cell large oval and cuboidal in shape. They'll typically be clear and can be stained a pink or purple color
Epithelial Cells (urine)
Young baby stage of fleas have a long body with tons of hairy legs. At this stage looks like hair.
Flea Larvae (Genus Ctenocephalides)
Defined circles tightly packed together
Flea Tapeworm Egg (Genus Dipylidium)
- tapeworm, segments full of egg capsules are shed through the animal's feces.
- egg capsules are ingested by flea larvae, where the eggs hatch and begin to mature inside the larvae
- the infested flea is ingested by the animal.
- tapeworm develops into an adult in the animal's intestines, as the flea is ingested it attaches to the intestinal lining and feeds on the animal's tissue.
- when the tapeworm fully matures, it begins to shed segments of its body off, which end up in the animal species repeating the cycle
Flea tapeworm segment (Genus Dipylidium)
Long worm with defined segments, the segments will be circular, and the skullex or head will look like it has a little ball of hair on top.And will have two big circles.
Flea Tapewor. (Genus Dipylidium)
-Large body with long legs for jumping from animal to animal
-brown in color.
Fleas (Genus Ctenocephalides)
-Infectious protozoa that swims in the small intestine
-looks like a teardrop with the face in long flagella
Giardia (Genus Giardia)
Angel hair pasta very long and thin.
Heartworm Adult (Genus Dirofilaria)
- immature, heartworm found in blood smears.
- thin long worm in blood, often blue or purple because of the stain
- will only be seen under a microscope.
Heartworm Microfilaria (Genus Dirofilaria)
- the size of a staple and thin
- under a microscope, you can see the esophagus the mouth will have little fangs or hooks
- Can look like a small staples when not under a microscope
Hookworm Adult
Defined cell membrane, inside the cell is blobby with no defined shapes, can look like 4 big blobs smushed together.
Hookworm Egg
- Found attached to horse hair
- bots are small and have defined ridges of the bones.
- The eggs are laid towards the end of the hair with only one egg per hair.
- Adults will look like a wasp or a bee
Horse Bots (Genus Gasterophilus)
- type of hookworm
- have a red and purple hue.Due to ingesting horse blood
- the sides of a staple in the mouth looks like a fishbowl the tail comes to a small whip.
- when looking at an egg, look at the space between the inside matter and the cell membrane
- they can be seen in fecal matter
Horse Strongylss (Family Strongylidae: Genus Strongylus)
- Mouthpiece is large in square for biting
- Eggs are found on hair and will attach to the bottom of the egg
Lice- Biting
- Mouthpiece forms a point or spear to reach small blood vessels in the skin
- Eggs attach the length of the egg to the hair
Lice- sucking
- Flat parasite that attaches to the liver
- eggs are oval and will have only one cap
Liver Fluke
Its a mosquito
Mosquito Adult
- Large head and eyes, long hair and body
- can be found in areas of water with little or no flow.
Mosquito larva
- Nucleus has many lobes, often five cytoplasm has a neutral color
- the nucleus is significantly darker than the rest
Neutrophils
- small, colorless cell fragments in the blood that help stop bleeding. And form clots.
- typically relatively round in shape
Platelets
Type of blood cell that transport oxygen and nutrients throughout the body
Red blood cell (Erythocyte)
Rod shaped bacteria are called bacilli, and they have been found in many groups
Rod (bacteria)
- Can sometimes be observed in a dog's feces or vomit
- mouthpiece has three parts and “wings” on the side of the head
Roundworm adult
- infected dog shed through their stool
- larvae, develop inside the eggs, 2-4 weeks later, making them infectious to another dog
- after ingesting larvae migrate through the walls of the intestines liver and lungs
- egg is round with distinct inside and lighter shell and can only be seen under a microscope
Roundworm egg
- also called scabies is an itchy disease in dogs caused by a mite
- small and not visible to the naked eye
- burrow into the skin and cause itching redness and skin crust. At the tip of the ear's elbows, hawks, chest and belly
- legs are shorter than the body
Sarcopotic Mite
- Also known as triple phosphate or magnesium ammonium phosphate
- a common cause urinary track stones in dogs and cats
Struvite Crystals (Triple magnesium phosphate)
- tiny round egg with a thick shell that comes from a type of tapeworm found in animals like cows and pigs.
- animals can swallow these eggs which then grow into larvae and can grow into adult tapeworms in their intestines.
Taenia Tapeworm Egg (Family Taeniidae: Genus Taenia)
- a rectangular shaped segment of the tapeworm.
- segment is wider often it's long
Taenia tapeworm segment
- parasitic worms that affect animals as hosts
- they use animals to complete their life.Cycle often causing diseases like taniasis or cystucercpsis
Taenia Tapeworm (Family Taeniideae; Genus Taenia)
Short mouthpiece scutum has very distinct patterns
Tick- American dog
Long mouthpiece scutum has legs and will be darker than the body
Tick- Black legged Deer
Short mouthpiece, long body scutum will be pure brown
Tick- brown dog
Long mouthpiece, scutum of the female will have a defined white dot, males will have a pattern similar to American dog just black rather than white
Tick- lonestar
- oval shaped with a thick shell and have a distinct caps or plug like structures at both ends
- typically, light browned in very resilient, capable of surviving in the environment for extended periods until ingested by a host where they hatch and develop into adults
Whipworm egg (Genus Trichuris)
- reside in the large intestine of animals
- named for their whip, like shape with a long slender anterior and a thicker prosterior end
- adults tend to be white or reddish brown.
- the anterior end embeds into the intestinal lining to feed on blood and tissue fluids, while the thicker tail end remains free
Whipworm (Genus Truchuris)
- single cell fungi that can be commonly associated with conditions like infections or skin issues in the animal
- thrive in warm, moist environments and are extremely small in microscopes
Yeast (cytology)
