What type of wave is Light?
Transverse
What is a transverse wave?
“A wave in which the medium vibrates at right angles to the direction of the propagation.” (like a slinky)
How fast does light travel?
300,000 km/sec
ARe radio waves light waves or sound waves?
Light waves
Radio waves are the longest waves, true or false
true
What are radio waves used for?
Primary means of communication – carry signals for TV, radio and
cellphones, garage door opener, GPS AND THE MRI IN THE HOSPITAL
Can radio waves pass through metal?
no
Infa-red Light: Which side on the scale is far- infrared closest too.
The mircrowave side
Visible Light
this is the specturum of light humans can see, 400-700nm, it is the colour we can see.
What is luminosity
Luminous objects produce/emit light - eg lightbulb, sun
Reflectivity:
Like a mirror it relfects light, does not to produce it, eg -water, mirror.
Refraction:
“The bending of light as it changes
from one medium to another” eg- seeing fish under water but they are actually not exactly there.
Polarized ight
Electric and magnetic fields oscillate in
one plane
Unpolarised light:
Electromagnetic fields oscillate in all
possible directions
Hyperopia
long-sightedness is the condition when images are focussed behind the retina causing blurring or eye strain. you can see things in distance but not close up
Myopia
or short-sightedness is the condition when images are focussed in front of the retina causing distant objects to appear
blurred.
