continuous reinforcement

reinforcement for every occurrence or independent response of the target behavior

fixed ratio (FR) schedule of reinforcement

constant, set amount of occurrences of the behavior that must occur before reinforcement

ex: FR3 - must respond correctly 3 times before reinforcer is given

variable ratio (VR) schedule of reinforcement

the average, changing amount of occurrences of the behavior before reinforcement

ex: VR3 - must respond correctly on average of 3 times before reinforcer. could be 1,2, or 3 times -constantly changing

fixed interval (FI) schedule of reinforcement

constant, set amount of time elapses before reinforcement

ex: FI2 - must respond correctly for 2 minutes before reinforcement

variable interval (VI) schedule of reinforcement

average amount of time elapses before reinforcement

intermittent reinforcement

reinforce some, but not all occurrences of a behavior or response

mass trial

present the same new SD repeatedly

ex: clap hands SD delivered 3 separate times back to back

random rotation

rotating between several targets

ex: clap hands then touch nose
