Universe
everything that exists
Galaxies
billions of stars and planets held together by graviy
Three different forms of galaxies
Spiral, Irregular, and Elliptical
Our galaxy is shaped as a ___ and is ___ billion years old
elliptical; 13.2 billion years old
Solar system
a grouping of planets, comets, and asteroids that revolve around a star
How old is our solar system?
4.6 billion years old
Classification of our Universe from Biggest to Smallest
Planet - Solar System - Galaxy - Universe
Formation of our solar system
A cloud of gas and dust form to be called a nebula. Gravity pulled the material together, which caused the sun to be in the center. The leftover gas and dust clumped together to form planets, moon and other objects.
Sun
the star that our solar system revolves around
Planets
8 planets, large objects to orbit the sun
Dwarf Planets
smaller, planet like objects, that have not fully cleared their orbit
Asteroids
Solid, rocky and/or metallic body that orbits the sun. Mostly between Mars + Jupiter
Moon
Earth’s natural satellite that revolves around the Earth
Comet
“dirty snowball” composed of solids that change to gas when heated
Meteorites; what are they called when they enter + land
A small solid fragment that orbits the sun
enter - meteors
land - meteorites
Inner planets
mercury, Venus, earth, mars (MY VERY EAGER MOTHER)
Asteroid belt
in between mars and Jupiter
contains Pallas, ceres (+ asteroids)
Outer planets
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune (JACOB SITS UPON NUTS)
Kuiper Belt
located after Neptune
Eris and Pluto
Rocky Asteroids, Comets, etc.
Terrestrial Planets (Inner planets)
Closer to the Sun
Rocky
Smaller
More Dense
Jovian Planets (Outer Planets)
Farther from the Sun
Gassy
Bigger
Less dense
Impact craters
formed by collision of asteroids, comets, meteors with another celestial body
The way a star ends depends on their …..
size
