Gorkhaland Movement

1980’s, Gorkhas in Darjeeling (West Bengal) consider themselves to be ethnically and culturally different, which is why they seek to make a separate state. Gov. of India gave in on 1988 and made the Darjeeling Ghorka Hill Council which is a semi-autonomous local gov.

1935, British parliamentary act gave some autonomy to British India by spliting it into provinces. This gave more power and autonomy to state governments. It did not accomplish much due to WII starting in 1939.
