Acquired Brain Injury
Is damage to the brain that occurs after birth, caused by traumatic or non-traumatic events, leading to changes in cognitive, physical, emotional, or behavioral functioning.
Non-traumatic injuries (nTBI)
refers to any brain damage resulting from internal biological processes rather than external impact. These processes include vascular events, infections, metabolic disturbances, toxins, or lack of oxygen
Traumatic injury types of categories
Refers to brain injury caused by an outside force which can either be traumatic impact (MVA or GSW) vs traumatic inertial (coup countercoup).

What is a Mild TBI?
Can have either brief or no loss of consciousness and its presentation may demonstrate vomiting, lethargy, dizziness ns inability to recall what just happened.
What is moderate TBI?
Will be marked by unconsciousness for any period of time up to 24 hours, will have neurological signs of brain trauma, including skull fractures with contusion or bleeding, and may have focal findings on an electroencephalograph EEG/ computed tomography CT scan.
what is severe TBI?
Marked by a period of Loss of consciousness of 24 hours or greater.
