What does a wire carrying a current have around it
A magnetic field
What happens if we place a current-carrying wire into a magnetic field between two magnetic poles
The magnetic field now interacts with the magnetic field between the two magnets. This caused the magnet and the wire to exert a force on each other. This causes wire to move
-This is called the motor effect
The force acting on the wire depends on three things
1)Magnetic flux density-How many filed lines there are in region, showing the strength of magnetic field
2)Size of the current through the wire
3)Lenrgh of the wire in the magnetic filed
When can you found out the force acting on the wire
When the wire is at 90 degrees to the magnetic field which is when you can use equation
What is the Force equation
Explain the Flemings left hand rule
1)Place thumb, first finger and second finger at right angles
2)First finger is the direction of the magnetic field from North to South
3)Point second finger in the direction of the current(from postive+ to negative-)
4)The direction your thumb is pointing at shows you the direction of the motion(the force)
Use Flemings left hand rule to show how the force is going upwards
What happens if conductor is not parallel to the magnetic field
It will not experience a force
-white bit is the conductor in image
What happens if conductor is at right angles to the magnetic field
It will experience a force showing below
