Nephrons
Functional units of the kidney, with approximately 1million/Kidney.
Renal Corpuscle
A structure composed of the Glomerus and the Glomerular Capsule (Bowman's Capsule).
Glomerus
One of the two main components of the Renal Corpuscle.
Glomerular Capsule
Also known as Bowman's Capsule, it is part of the Renal Corpuscle.
Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT)
A section of the nephron where glucose and H2O are processed.
Loop of Henle
Also referred to as the Nephron Loop, it consists of a Descending limb and an Ascending Limb.
Descending limb
The portion of the Loop of Henle associated with the movement of H2O.
Ascending Limb
The portion of the Loop of Henle associated with Electrolytes (Na,Cl,Mg) and NaCl.
Distal Convoluted Tubule (DCT)
A section of the nephron following the Loop of Henle involving H2O.
Afferent Arteriole
An arteriole that enters the area of the renal corpuscle.
Efferent Arteriole
An arteriole that exits the area of the renal corpuscle.
Collecting Duct
The final structure in the nephron diagram that leads to Urine formation.
