what are the positions of the patient?

-upright,

-semi-upright

-supine or horizontal with the brain at same level as the heart

-trendelenburg (brain is lower than the heart)

Semi Upright

-back of chair is reclined at 45 degrees

-patients with certain types of cardiovascular, respiratory, or vertigo problems may need this

Supine

-the chair is in a supine or flat position, the brain is at the same level as the heart

-patient is ideally situated for support of the circulation; rarely could a patient faint while lying

-back of chair is parellel to the floor

-position used most for treatment procedures

Trendelenburg

-angle is 10 to 15 degrees

-brain is lower than the heart

-back of chair is less than parallel to the floor

-position is utilized in mgmt of some medical emergencies/selected medical procedures

CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome)

a symptomatic compression of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel

thoracic outlet syndrome

painful disorder of the fingers, hand, & wrist from compression of the brachial nerve plexus & vessels btw the neck/shoulder

bursitis

inflammation of the bursa

tendonitis

painful inflammation of the wrist resulting in strain

disk herniation

displacement of the nucleus of the disk with resultant pressure on the spinal cord/peripheral nerves
