Why was he a Machiavelli ruler?
Machiavelli referenced Borgia as the “ideal ruler” because of his ruthless tactics to secure his power. For example, Borgia orchestrated the murder of rival leaders and disloyal allies, showing a willingness to be ruthless when necessary.

As encouraged by Machiavelli, he was a ruler who used ruthless tactics to induce fear over his followers to ensure he would retain power over the Soviet Union.
What does this drawing represent in The Prince?
It is a representation of one of Machiavelli’s famous metaphors, the Fox and the Lion. In the book, Machiavelli explains that a ruler must possess the characteristics of a Fox and Lion. The fox represents slyness, having the ability to detect traps, while a lion represents strength and power, frightening off wolves (enemies).
