IoT vs. M2M
IoT requires human intervention; M2M allows devices to communicate directly without human intervention.

Structured Data

Unstructured Data

Machine-Generated Unstructured Data

Examines data to determine why something happened; answers "Why did it happen?"
Predictive Analytics
Uses data to predict future trends and identify behavioral patterns; answers "What might happen next?"
Prescriptive Analytics
Creates models that recommend the best decision or course of action; answers "What should we do?"
