Reinforcement schedule
The rules that control the timing and frequency of reinforcer delivery to increase the likelihood a target behavior will happen again, strengthen or continue
Continuous Reinforcement
reinforcing the desired response every time it occurs
Partial (intermittent) Reinforcement
reinforcing a response only part of time
Fixed-ratio schedule
in operant conditioning, a reinforcement schedule that reinforces a response only after a specified amount of time. Rapid rate of response, but short post-reinforcement pauses.
Variable-ratio schedule
in operant conditioning a reinforcement schedule that reinforces a response only after an unpredictable number of responses
Fixed Interval Schedule
in operant conditioning, a reinforcement schedule that reinforces a response only after a specified amount of time. No response during interval is enforced.
Variable Interval Schedule
In operant conditioning, a reinforcement schedule that reinforces a response at unpredictable time intervals.
Punishment
a goal to decrease occurrence of behavior
Positive Punishment
adding an aversive consequence after an undesired behavior
Negative Punishment
taking away a certain reinforcing item after the undesired behavior happens in order to decrease future responses
Intrinsic Motivation
desire to perform a behavior for its own sake
Extrinsic Motivation
desire to perform behavior for rewards or avoidance of punishment
Observational/vicarious learning
the process of learning by watching the behaviors of others
Modeling
the process of observing behavior & imitating a specific behavior.
Live Model
real life person one can observe
Mirror Neurons
frontal lobe neurons that some scientists believe fire when we perform certain actions or observe another doing so.
Prosocial Behavior
behavior that benefits other people or society as a whole
