what is the Aufbau principle ( energy levels)
you must fill the lower energy level first before moving to a higher energy level
what is hunds rule
you must fill up orbitals with the same energy level one at a time, place electron on their own first not in pairs
bohr theory
each orbit has a specific energy level
electrons can only exist in those energy levels not in-between energy shells
the shells are labelled n= 1,2,3…, n=1 is the lowest energy as it is the closest to the nucleus
what did bohrs theory say about electrons jumping between energy levels
electrons can jump to a higher energy level if they absorb energy like heat or light
what is an example of bohrs theory
the hydrogen atom
hydrogen has 1 electron, and in bohrs model this elctron orbits the nucleus sin the n=1 energy level
if it absorbs energy it can jump to n=2 eg
but then it can fall back to n=1 if it releases the energy AS LIGHT
