Present Simple
Used for regular actions, habits, facts, laws of nature, and schedules.
Present Simple Formula
I/You/We/They + V (I work); He/She/It + V + s/es (He works)
Present Simple Negative Form
subject+do/does + not + V (He doesn’t work)
Present Simple Question Form
Do/Does + subject + V? (Does he work?)
Present Continuous
Used for actions happening now, temporary actions, and planned future events.
Present Continuous Formula
S+am/is/are + V-ing (She is working)
Past Simple
Used for completed actions in the past and specific times in the past (in 2010, last year, two days ago)
Past Simple Formula
S+V2(ed) (I went, He played)
Past Simple Negative Form
S+didn’t + V (He didn’t go)
Past Simple Question Form
Did + subject + V (Did he go?)
Past Continuous
Used for actions at a specific time in the past and as background for another action.
Past Continuous Formula
subject+was/were + V-ing (She was sleeping, They were talking)
