Mandible

The lower jawbone.

Ramus

The vertical portion of the mandible.

Mandibular angle

The angle where the body and ramus of the mandible meet.

Mandibular notch

A notch between the coronoid and condylar processes of the mandible.

Coronoid process

A projection of the mandible.

Condylar process

A projection of the mandible that articulates with the temporal bone.

Body of mandible

The horizontal portion of the mandible.

Alveolar process

A ridge of bone that contains the tooth sockets.

Mental foramina

Openings in the mandible.

Maxillary bones

Paired bones forming the upper jaw and central portion of the facial skeleton.

Anterior nasal spine

A projection of the maxilla.

Palatine process

A projection of the maxilla that contributes to the hard palate.

Maxillary sinuses

Paranasal sinuses located within the maxillary bones.

Inferior orbital fissure

A fissure forming part of the orbit.

Zygomatic bones

The cheekbones.

Nasal bones

Form the bridge of the nose.

Lacrimal bones

Small bones forming part of the medial wall of the orbits.

Lacrimal fossa

A depression associated with the lacrimal bone.

Palatine bones

Form the posterior portion of the hard palate.

Vomer

A facial bone that forms part of the nasal septum; one of the two unpaired facial bones.

Inferior nasal conchae

Bones that form part of the lateral wall of the nasal cavity.

Hyoid bone

A bone located inferior to the mandible in the anterior neck; the only bone that does not articulate directly with another bone.

Nasal septum

The structure that divides the nasal cavity; formed by the vomer, perpendicular plate of the ethmoid, and septal cartilage.

Nasal meatuses

Depressions beneath the nasal conchae.

Roof of orbit

Formed by the frontal and sphenoid bones.

Lateral wall of orbit

Formed by the frontal, sphenoid, and zygomatic bones.

Medial wall of orbit

Formed by the sphenoid, ethmoid, maxilla, and lacrimal bones.

Floor of orbit

Formed by the palatine, maxilla, and zygomatic bones.

Roof of nasal cavity

Includes the cribriform plate.

Floor of nasal cavity

Formed by the palatine processes of the maxilla and palatine bones.
