Primary Source
A first-hand account from someone who witnessed or experienced the event.
Secondary Source
A second-hand account from someone who is retelling an event they did not witness or experience.
Fact
Information that can be supported with evidence such as data and statistics.
Opinion
What someone thinks or believes, often using subjective language.
Movement
The transfer of goods, people, or ideas; includes trade, transportation, and exchange of ideas.
Region
An area defined by unifying characteristics such as physical geography or cultural traits.
Human Environment Interaction
How the environment affects people and culture, and how people impact the environment.
Location
The specific position of something in terms of absolute (latitude/longitude) or relative references.
Place
The physical and human characteristics that define a location.
Bering Strait Land Bridge
A land bridge that connected Asia and North America during the Ice Age.
Inuit
An indigenous group living in the Arctic region, known for hunting marine animals and living in igloos.
Iroquois Confederacy
The first form of representative government in North America, an alliance among five tribes.
Nomadic
People who move from place to place, often following food sources.
Three Sisters
A term referring to the crops of corn, beans, and squash cultivated by the Iroquois.
Totem Pole
A structure made by the Kwakiutls that shares stories of their religion and ancestors.
Adobe
A type of sun-dried clay housing found in the Southwest region.
League of 5 Nations
Also known as the Iroquois Confederacy, it promoted unity among tribes.
Sachem
The tribal chief leader in Iroquois society.
Culture
The complete way of life for a group, including food, language, arts, religion, and government.
Geography
The study of Earth's surface and how humans interact with it.
Location
A way to break down the world spatially, either through absolute or relative terms.
Place
The unique characteristics that distinguish a specific location from others.
