How do you calculate the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in an atom?

The number of protons is equivalent to the atomic number. In a neutral atom, the number of electrons is the same as the number of protons. To calculate the number of neutrons, subtract the atomic number from the mass number: Neutrons = Mass Number - Atomic Number
