Weather
Is the state of the atmosphere, describing for example the degree to which it is hot or cold, wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy.
Air Pressure
It measures how heavy the air is over a unit of area.
Air Temperature
It measures how hot or cold the air is.
Climate
It refers to the average temperature and precipitation over time.
Temperature
Depends on the amount of energy received from the sun base on the angle and location at which sunlight strikes Earth.
Precipitation
Water that falls on the ground as rain, snow, etc.
Latitude
Is a measure of distance North and South of the equator.
Proximity to Large Bodies of Water
Water heats and cools slowly, usually has mild climates or temperate.
Elevation/Altitude
The higher of the land, the colder it is.
Ocean Currents
Global circulation of heat in the oceans moves heat energy around the world.
Ocean Currents
It is a stream of water that flows in a definite path that maybe warm or cold.
Proximity to Mountain Ranges
Air is forced to rise, as it cools it loses its ability to hold water, and precipitation occurs on the windward side. Can affect precipitation by making a rain shadow.
Prevailing Winds
Causes predominant wind direction. This influences the type of weather that approaches you.
Prevailing Westerlies
Causes weather patterns to move from west to east across the United States.
Wind
Is a movement of air in the atmosphere that is caused by a difference in air pressure due to unequal heating.
Northeast Moonsoon
Hanging Amihan; from Nov to March; brings the cold temperature from northern hemisphere(winter)
Southwest Monsoon
Hanging Habagat; from June to October; causes the rainy season in the western part of the country.
Trade Winds
From March to early May; It brings rain only to the eastern part of the country.
Two Factors Affecting Weather:
Air Pressure and Air Temperature
2 Main Characteristics of Climate
Temperature and Precipitation
Factors Affecting Temperature:
Latitude, Elevation/Altitude, Proximity to Large Bodies of Water, and Ocean Currents
Factors Affecting Precipitation:
Prevailing Westerlies, Prevailing Winds and Proximity to Mountain Ranges
