Immune System

The body's defense system that is affected by the HIV virus.

Sexuality

Everything you are as male or female including feelings, attitudes, values, etc.

Penis

Male sexual organs that produce sperm.

Fertilization

The beginning of pregnancy; the sperm meeting and fertilizing the ovum.

Uterus

The organ where fertilization typically occurs.

Menstruation

The monthly flow of blood that is shed by the uterus through the vagina.

Ovulation

The release of an egg cell, or ovum, from the ovary.

HIV

The virus that causes AIDS.

C-Section

A type of birth through an incision in the abdomen; used when vaginal birth isn’t possible.

Uterus

The muscular organ where the baby grows during pregnancy.

Gestation Sac

The sac inside the uterus filled with fluid that protects the baby during pregnancy.

Fetus

The developing baby from the 8th week until birth.

HIV

Stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus

Abstinence

To refrain from having any sexual contact with another person that involves the transfer of blood, semen or vaginal secretions.

Labor

Contractions of the uterus that dilate the cervix.

Infertility

The inability to have children.

Ectopic Pregnancy

A fertilized ovum that implants in the fallopian tubes instead of the uterus.

Testicles

What produces semen.
