• Excitatory

  • Works with Hippocampus

  • Muscle functions, learning/memory

Dopamine

• Can be excitatory or inhibitory (usually inhibitory)

  • Linked to Parkinson’s if too little and Schizo if too much

  • Arousal, sensation, mood, emotion

  • Linked also with drug ADDICTION

Serotonin

• Inhibitory

  • Mood, regulation, hunger, sleep

  • Linked to hallucination, depression, and mood disorders

Endorphins

• Inhibitory

• Stops body from noticing pain (pain control, stress control)

  • Artificial high, linked with OPIOD addiction

Norepinephrine

• Excitatory

• Arousal and mood elevation (extreme)

  • Fight/flight response

  • Linked with anxiety and too little linked with depression

GABA

• Inhibitory

• Regulates sleep & eating

  • Linked with insomnia

Glutamate

• Excitatory

  • Long-term memory
