What is the difference between charts and maps?
Charts are based on lat/long.
What are the types of projections?
Gnomonic projection, mercator projection, Conic projection, and secant conic projection.
Describe gnomonic projection.
One point of accuracy. Limited in aviation. Further from the focal point = less accurate.
Describe Mercator Projection.
Cylindrical chart projection, can represent lines of constant course (rhumb lines) are straight, distorted at poles.
Describe Conic Projection.
Reference parallel.
Describe Secant Conic Projection.
Often used for aeronautical charts. Two reference parallels. Straight line approximates great-circle route.
What is CA and CF?
Convergence angle (the gap), convergence factor (1 for sphere, CF*long=change in TC)
