Articulation

Commonly referred to as joints; points where bones meet.

Synovial Joints

Freely movable joints that contain a fluid-filled cavity.

Temporomandibular Joint

The joint where the mandible fits into the temporal bone, commonly associated with jaw disorders.

TMJ Disorder

Condition causing pain in the jaw due to clenching teeth, often during sleep.

Uniaxial Joint

A joint that allows movement in only one plane.

Subluxation

A partial dislocation of a joint, often involving the radius bone in the elbow.

Lateral Epicondylitis

Commonly known as tennis elbow, pain caused by repetitive twisting actions of the arm.

Unhappy Triad

A common knee injury involving simultaneous tearing of three ligaments.

Torn Tibial Collateral Ligament

Common injury associated with the unhappy triad; occurs when the knee bends abnormally.

Medial Meniscus

A pad of fibrocartilage in the knee that can tear due to injury to the knee.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)

A key ligament in the knee that can be torn due to lateral impacts.

Dorsiflexion

Movement that involves digging heels in, lifting the foot upwards.

Plantarflexion

Movement that involves pointing the toes downwards.

Pott's Fracture

A fracture of the distal ends of the tibia and fibula, typically from over-eversion.

Arthritis

A general term for pain in the joints, can be degenerative, inflammatory, or metabolic.

Osteoarthritis

The most common form of arthritis, characterized by wear and tear of the articular cartilage.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

An autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks healthy articular cartilage.

Ankylosis

The fusion of joints, resulting in immobility, often seen in severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Gouty Arthritis

A metabolic disorder causing uric acid crystals to build up in joints, leading to pain.

Flatfoot

A condition where the arches of the foot collapse, often causing pain and discomfort.

Articular Cartilage

The smooth, white tissue that covers the ends of bones where they come together to form joints.
