Collagen, elastin, reticular fibers

Connective tissue

supports and connects other tissues, matrix tends to be bigger

Loose connective tissue

simple support tissue, physical support

fibroblasts

cells that synthesize fibers

Dense connective tissue

less fluid tissue with more fibers, stronger physical support

Regular dense connective tissue

strong in one direction; tendons(bone-to-muscle), ligaments (bone-to-bone)

Adipose tissue

fat tissue made of adipose cells that store energy; metabolic functions, shock absorption

Cartilage

cushion-like, made up of gelatinous matrix

Osseous tissue

bone tissue made up of concentric rings, calcium matrix, and holes where living cells used to be

Blood

liquid matrix (plasma), circulation in higher animals

Skeletal muscle

most abundant tissue, striated(lines), voluntary movement

Smooth muscle

non-striated, involuntary, digestive/circulatory system

Cardiac muscle

striated with intercalated discs to separate cells, involuntary, part of the heart

Nervous tissue

coordinates body functions
