Net Ionic Equation
A chemical reaction written with ONLY the species involved in forming products and OMIT any ions that remain in solution
Complete Ionic Equation
The reaction where all aqueous compounds are separated into their respected ions
Spectator Ions
Ions that are the same in a complete ionic equation. Have to be the same state of matter (aq)
How to write a Net Ionic Equation
Start with a balanced chemical equation
Separate any (aq) compounds into its component ions. Leave any (s) (l) or (g) as is.
Cross out any spectator ions that appear on both sides of the equation
Write the remaining species as your Net Ionic Equation
