skin perfusion pressure (SPP)
blood pressure at which microcirculatory flow returns after occlusion
not affected by arterial calcification
useful in pts with diabetes
clinical applications of SPP:
predicting wound healing potential
selecting amputation level based on perfusion
diagnosing PAD/CLI when ABI is unreliable
an SPP value of >40 mmHg indicates:
high healing probability
an SPP value of 30-40 mmHg indicates:
grey zone
requires further evaluation
an SPP value of < 30 mmHg indicates:
critical ischemia
revascularization often needed
advantages of SPP:
non-invasive
reproducible
effective for non-compressible arteries
limitations of SPP:
sensitive to motion, temperature and tissue condition
