Denial
Ignoring or refusing to accept something unpleasant
DISPLACEMENT
When we lash out on someone because we are angry from an earlier experience

Daydreaming to instead of dealing with reality

We see negative traits in others but cant admit they exist in ourselves too
Rationalizing
Making an excuse to explain a failure, loss, or our bad behaviour
Regression
Returning to our coping strategies and behaviour patterns of our past
Repression
When we unconsciously push unpleasant feelings out of our conscious mind to our unconscious mind
Supperession
Consciously avoiding and blocking ideas that are unpleasant
Sour Grapes
When we can’t reach a goal we say it wasn’t worth it
Sublimination
Replacing socially unacceptable impulses with actions that are socially behaviour
Reaction Formation
Acting in the exact opposite manner to one’s unacceptable impulses
Overcompensatiom
Over achieving in one area to make up for real or perceived shortcomings in another area
Undercompensation
When a person adresses their shortcomings by being overly reliant on others
