  • Stillman’s cleft → V-shaped of localized recession, up to 6mm

  • McCall’s festoon → rimlike enlargment of gingival margin

• consistency — firmly bound to underlying tooth and bone in health

  • inflammation → loss of firmness and resiliency

• texture — stippling in health

  • inflammation → stippling disappears; thick and fibrotic

Glickman’s classification of furcation involvement

• grade I → incipient, barely detectable (<3mm)

• grade II → early bone loss; furcation not all the way through

• grade III → through and through furcation

• grade IV → through and through furcation with recession

Miller classification of tooth mobility

• class 0 → normal physiologic movement
