Two Minutes Hate
A video played ritualistically for two minutes every day featuring Emmanuel Goldstein to promote hate for anyone opposing the government and Big Brother.
Thought Police (15 / 14)
A group of people who are acting as a police force responsible for taking in anyone who thinks a thought that opposes the ideals of Big Brother.

A crime that involves the mere thinking of anything that opposes the totalitarian way of the world, especially anything that goes against Big Brother.
doublespeak and doublethink
The idea of believing in two separate ideas that contradict each other.
proletariat / “proles”
A term referring to the working class who don’t identify with the large Party.

Someone who is made to disappear, not in a sense that they died but in a sense that they had never even existed in the first place.

Someone who commits a thought crime and is taken by the thought police. They vanish with no trace and seem to have been erased from existence.

The act of letting your own thoughts wander and showing physical signs of hiding something, such a nervous tick or an ‘incorrect' facial expression.
controlling class or “inner Party” (102, 159 / 122, 193)
Members of the Party who hold deep beliefs of INGSOC and follow the Party standards to an exact point.
The Brotherhood
An organization that conspires against the Party, where limited information exists so as to ensure that if a member is caught they do not betray the others.
bourgeois or bourgeoisie or “outer Party” (158 / 191)
party members that still identify themselves with the Party, but do not deeply involve themselves. They live a lower quality of life compared to the Inner Party members and have less rights.
Utopianism (167 / 203)
The belief that everything in life in the olden days is completely perfect.
Socialism
An idea that began with the aim of establishing freedom, liberty, and equality that eventually turned into the ideals of Big brother and INGSOC.
crimestop (175 / 212)
Stopping oneself from thinking a dangerous thought that often involves exercising thoughts of something less than intelligent involving the Party’s ideals as self preservation.
Newspeak (246 / 299)
The official language of Oceania which involves limiting ones vocabulary to the least possible amount of words.
