What is propps character theory
When characters can be defined by their ‘spheres of action’ and the role they played in the progression of the story
Describe ‘hero’
The protagonist who undertakes a journey/ quest in the narrative
Describe ‘villain’
The antagonist who attempts to defeat the protagonist
Describe ‘the dispatcher’
The person who sends the hero on their quests
Describe ‘the donor’
The person who gives the hero special advice, info or an object
Describe ‘the helper’
A friend who motivates the hero (side-kick)
Describe ‘princess’
The motivation / reward for the quest
Describe ‘false hero’
The person who turns on the hero and causes complications… gets punished
Describe ‘the princesses father’ (extra)
Acts as an obstacle for the hero but might also reward the hero
