What can cause weight gain and loss?

An energy imbalance

Weight gain - energy intake is greater than energy output, so excess energy is turned into fat reserved in the body

Weight loss - energy intake is lower than energy output, so fat reserves are turned into energy

Vitamin C Practical

Uses: DCPIP that turns from blue to colourless when in the presence of vitamin C

  1. Use several vitamin C solutions of known concentration

  2. Using a measuring cylinder measure equal volumes of DCPIP and add them into test tubes

  3. Add one of the vitamin C solutions drop by drop into the DCPIP solution

  4. After each drop shake the DCPIP solution for a set length of time using a stopwatch

  5. Record when the solution turns colourless (number of drop)

  6. Repeat 2 more times with the same concentration of Vitamin C

  7. Repeat with all the other Vitamin C solutions of different concentrations

  8. Plot a graph of volume of Vitamin C on the concentration of vitamin C

  9. Draw a curve of best fit = calibration curve

  10. Test unknown solutions and record the number of drops needed and compare to the graph
