Step 1
Set up apparatus as shown, with the length of the string set at 1m, measured from from the bottom of the cork to the middle of the weight
Step 2
Set the pendulum swinging non-elliptically through an arc of <15 degrees. Measure time taken for 25 oscillations
Step 3
Hence calculate the periodic time (Τ) which is the time for one oscillation
Step 4
Reduce length of pendulum by 10cm and repeat steps 1-3
Step 5
Repeat step 4, four more times
Step 6
Plot a graph of l vs. T2 and find its slope
Step 7
Multiply the slope by 4π squared to find the acceleration due to gravity
