Chemistry
The study of matter and the changes it undergoes.
Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Atoms
The building blocks of matter.
Element
A substance where each piece is made of the same kind of atom.
Compound
A substance made of 2 or more different kinds of elements.
Space filling models
Models that show correct bond length, atomic size, and bond angles, though they are not practical to draw.
Ball and stick models
Models similar to space filling models that highlight bond angles and show correct sizes of atoms, but feature exaggerated bond lengths.
Lewis structure
A model for showing bonding in molecules.
Structural Formula
A model for showing bonding in molecules.
3 Line Diagram
A model for showing bonding in molecules.
Condensed Formula
A model used for showing bonding in molecules.
Gas
A state of matter characterized by total disorder, much empty space, and particles with complete freedom of motion.
Allotrope
Different forms of the same element.
Carbon allotropes
Examples include Graphite and Diamond.
