island

A piece of land that is completely surrounded by water, smaller than a continent.

peninsula

A landform surrounded by water on three sides, connected to the mainland on one side.

archipelago

A group or chain of islands clustered together in a body of water.

landlocked

A geographical area that is entirely surrounded by land, with no direct access to the ocean or sea.

isthmus

A narrow strip of land that connects two larger land masses, bordered by water on two sides.

strait

A narrow passage of water that connects two larger bodies of water.

delta

A landform created at the mouth of a river where it meets a body of water, built up by sediment deposits.

AD

Stands for “Anno Domini,” meaning “in the year of our Lord.” Used to label years on the calendar after the estimated year of the birth of Jesus Christ.

BC

Stands for “Before Christ.” Used to label years on the calendar before the estimated year of the birth of Jesus Christ.

A span of 100 years.

decade

A span of 10 years.

The natural, observable traits or parts of something.

resources

A traditional way of behaving, something made to order for a specific person, or regular business support from customers.
