**Cultural Diversity**

characterized by a wide range of distinctions including race, origin, religion, language, physical size, gender, sexual orientation, and age

**Ethnocentrism**

the belief or assumption that a particular social or cultural group is superior in some way 

**Culture**

shared system of beliefs, values, and behavioral expectations that provide structure for daily living

**Ethnicity**

a sense of identification with a group based on a common heritage 

Race

 normally based on specific physical characteristics such as the color of your skin, facial features, body stature, or hair texture. Examples are White, African American, Asian, Pacific Islanders, and Alaskan natives, and the US views Hispanics & Latinos as an ethnic group rather than a racial one

**Dominant Group**

he group within a society that tends to control that society’s values, mostly the largest population but doesn’t have to be

**Minority Group**

usually has some physical or cultural characteristics that identify them as different 

**Acculturation**

a process by which a member of a minority group shirts their identity from the minority group to the dominant group and adopts their values, also known as Cultural Assimilation

**Immigrate**

settle in a new country

**Hereditary**

 inherited genetically 

**Subculture**

a group of people who are members of a larger cultural group, but some beliefs or attitudes differ from the main branch

**Folk Medicine**

 a form of prevention and treatment that uses old-fashioned remedies and household medicines
