Name the hormones the pancreas releases.
Insulin and glucagon.
What happens to blood glucose concentration when you have eaten a meal?
The concentration rises. This is detected by the pancreas and the pancreas releases insulin..
What happens to the glucose in the blood when insulin is released? Why?
It decreases. As insulin triggers body cells to take up glucose from the blood & triggers liver and muscle cells to store excess glucose as glycogen.
What happens to the glucose in the blood when glucagon is released? Why?
Glucagon triggers liver cells to convert glycogen back to glucose, making the concentration in the blood rise.
What are the two types of diabetes?
Type 1 - The pancreas does not produce enough insulin. Type 2 - body cells stop responding to insulin.
