Module 4 Vocabulary List

A list of vocabulary terms and definitions to study for the vocabulary test.

Constant rate of change

The rate of change in between any two points in a linear relationship that are the same or constant.

Linear Equation

An equation with a graph that is a straight line.

Linear Relationships

A relationship that has a straight-line graph.

Rate of Change

A rate that describes how one quantity changes in relation to another quantity.

Slope

The rate of change between any two points on a line.

Solution

A value that makes an equation true.

Rise

The vertical change between any two points on a line.

Run

The horizontal change between any two points on a line.

Corresponding Parts

Parts of congruent or similar figures that are in the same relative position.

Similar Figures

Figures that have the same shape but not necessarily the same size.

Slope Triangles

Right triangles that fall on the same line on the coordinate plane.

Constant of Proportionality

The constant ratio in a proportional linear relationship.

Constant of Variation

A constant ratio in direct variation.

Direct Variation

A relationship between two variables with a constant ratio; Also known as a proportional linear relationship.

Initial Value

The starting value in a real-world situation in which an equation can be written; Also known as the y-intercept of a linear function.

Slope-Intercept Form

An equation written in the form y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

Y-Intercept

The second number of an ordered pair.
