Bandage changes: we charge per bandage

Bandage Changes Charges 

• The first bandage change after a visit (within 2-3 days) does not need a tech fee

• If the bandage needs to be changed, then the bandage should be charged

• All following bandage change visits after the first one should have a tech fee

• Any delayed visit for the first change (i.e owner does not come back within 3 days) should have a tech fee. In other words, “your first bandage change is free of charge” is not correct

Bandage removal or drain/suture/staple removal:

we don’t charge

Humane euth (take the body home) $295

we would charge this only if the O came in already wanting euthanasia and a full consult with a Dr. was not done. 

• If euthanasia was not initially anticipated or if the Dr. needed to do a full consultation and physical exam w/ O, then charge an exam, with injection, and with a catheter separately. 

Euth (no aftercare)

Euth + communal (preparing ashes with other pets and spreading them across the ocean)

Euth + private(cremation of animal and returning the ashes to owner)

Body hold fee - $140

• We can hold it for 5 days. After that it would be communal aquamation.

If we humanely mercy euthanize (for free due to financial constraints), we will ONLY comp a communal cremation. If owners want a private cremation, they need to pay for the euthanasia or take the body home and take the body elsewhere for aftercare. 

stray/wildlife - if a good Samaritan is to bring in an injured stray or wildlife for euth, WE DO NOT CHARGE.

 We don't charge for the euthanasia or for the aftercare; we have a ‘wildlife/stray’ option to process bodies; we just need to have an account for the animal for our records. 

• All stray dogs/cats should be microchip scanned prior to euthanasia. If the animal is not in critical condition or if a chip is found, we should not be euthanizing. The animal brought in should either be taken to the shelter, or the good Samaritan should be responsible for calling the owners of P if the chip is registered. 

• We should take a photo of anyone's ID who brings in a stray

Even if they take the body home or it's wildlife, it still needs a sticker in the binder.

Amoxicillin- Penicillin - antibiotic

 Antibiotic commonly used for bacterial infections, give with food

Veraflox (pradofloxacin) - antibiotic

 fluoroquinolone antibiotic   give with food 

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate (Clavacillin/ Clavamox))

Synthetic Penicillin Antibiotic used for bacterial infections  give with food

Metronidazole - antibiotic, antidiarrheal

Antibiotic, antidiarrheal, antiprotozoal used to treat diarrhea, is also an antiparasitic, give with food 

Marbofloxacin - antibiotic

 Broad spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, usually used to treat a severe infection or one that has not responded to other antibiotics  give with food

Cephalexin- Cephalosporin - antibiotic

antibiotic used to treat bacteria infections, typically skin infections.  give with food

Amitriptyline hydrochloride - antidepressant

an antidepressant used for behavioral disorders

Also relaxes the urethra?

Trazodone-anti anxiety

may cause drowsiness 

• Usually paired with gabapentin for sedation and anxiety relief 

Gabapentin pain med

nerve pain relief medication may cause drowsiness, and keep refrigerated if liquid

• If gabapentin liquid is written as a prescription for owners to pick up at an alternative pharmacy, make sure the prescription specifies NO XYLITOL 

Onsior (robenacoxib) - anti-inflammatory

used only for cats give with food

• It is also an anti-inflammatory, and may require blood work to test for normal kidney and liver values 

Meloxicam - anti-inflammatory

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation, gives with food

• It is also an anti-inflammatory, and may require blood work to test for normal kidney and liver values 

Carprofen - anti-inflammatory

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation, given with food

• Anti-inflammatory, and may require blood work to test for normal kidney and liver values

Methocarbamol - muscle relaxant

muscle relaxant used to treat conditions involving muscle spasms, pain, and stiffness.. may cause drowsiness

Panacur - deworming

we have liquid and packets to pour over food. 

• If Panacur liquid is sent home, it's more convenient to send home pre-made syringes for smaller doses.

Nemex (pyrantel) - dewormer

dewormer for dogs and puppies only. Dosing is written on the bottle.

 Albon (sulfadimethoxine) - intestinal/bacterial antibiotic

used in veterinary medicine to treat and control coccidiosis and certain bacterial infections in dogs and cats.

give with food

FortiFlora - probiotic supplement

1 packet once a day for 7 days, give with food

Sucralfate- Gastroprotectant like against ulcers

helps protect the lining of the digestive  tract and is used to treat and manage gastrointestinal conditions like ulcers and gastritis (not a probiotic) helps line the GI tract to create a barrier between the stomach and stomach acids (makes a slushie) 

• Some doctors will not make a slushie and will just send home the tablets, usually for really big dogs.

Omeprazole (GI acid reflux) medication that reduces amount of acid that stomach produces

• Typically this is a 10mg tablet

• This is an over-the-counter medication as well, always offer that this can be bought over the counter

Famotidine - Pepcid

similar to Pepcid & is over the counter, reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces, provides fast relief

Proviable capsule/kit - probiotic

 probiotic for GI support. Proviable kits are by body weight, and instructions are listed on the box

Cerenia (maropitant) inj 1mg/kg Anti-nausea

lasts ~24 hours

Cerenia (maropitant) tab 2mg/kg - 8mg/kg SID - Anti-nausea

starting the next day after being given the injection in the clinic.

Entyce (capromorelin) - appetite stimulate

always a 3mg/kg dose. We have 30 mg/ml strength bottles

Miritaz (mirtazapine) - appetite stimulate

 cats only, apply into the inner ear flap and alternate per use (wear gloves to apply)

PredniSOLONE syrup- 0.5mg/kg - steroid reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system

may increase thirst and urination

• Cats cannot have prednisone; they can only have prednisOLONE, which is the active form of prednisone. Cats are not able to metabolize prednisone (their liver is responsible for this process) 

• Dogs can have both prednisone and prednisolone

PredniSONE - anti-inflammatory

used to reduce inflammation and sometimes requires a kidney profile or a chem profile before it can be prescribed. may increase thirst and urination

Usually, older patients or patients who have been on anti-inflammatories or steroids for long periods require blood work.

Levetiracetam aka KEPPRA - seizure meds

Magic mouthwash -numb the mouth, reduce inflammation, and coat the throat

1:1:1 ratio of what's listed on the label Dr. prescribes. 

If Dr. does not provide instructions, use the golden ratio of lidocaine, liquid Benadryl, Maalox (or similar antacid that we have in stock).

SSD (silver sulfadiazine cream) -antimicrobial

Antimicrobial and wound healing properties, usually prescribed for burns, chemical burns, wounds, etc..

Douxo antiseptic and antifungal wipes 

Douxo mousse 

Douxo shampoo

Skin allergies/skin issues

Douxo products are typically prescribed for patients with skin issues or allergies (e.g. irritated paws or hot spots, etc.)

Capstar - adult flea medication short term

Capstar is given to patients who have fleas. It kills the adult fleas on dogs and cats, usually starts working within 30 minutes, and eliminates most fleas within a few hours. Only short-term relief, patients should be on long-term flea and tick prevention

Credelio - flea and tick preventative long term

 prescription-strength flea and tick preventative that is given typically once monthly. This is a chewable tablet 

• We typically give owners the first dose, then write a written Rx for 6-month supply so they can get 6 more doses.

• Credelio only goes up to a 50-100 pound dose. If a dog is bigger than 100 pounds, there is a dosing chart on the Credelio webpage on how to combine doses.  

Revolution - flea and tick preventative topical

 prescription-strength flea and tick preventative that is given typically once monthly. Topical and should be applied between the shoulder blades. 

Yunnan Baiyao - control bleeding/promote wound healng

 traditional Chinese herbal medicine used to help control bleeding and promote wound healing. Often used for internal bleeding, post-surgery, etc.

Nutri-cal - high calorie oral gel -supplement diet, stimulate appetites, and provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acid

- this is a gel that is high in vitamins, minerals, calories, etc., usually sent home with kittens and puppies that are malnourished or don't want to eat or drink. 

Viralys - supplement to support immune health

this is a gel L-Lysine supplement for CATS to support immune health.

Denamarin - liver supplement

liver supplement, usually the dose is written on the box or the bottle.

Simplicef - cefpodoxime - antibiotic

cephalosporin antibiotic treat bacterial infections in dogs, such as wounds, abscesses, and skin infections

Posatex - ear medication

 instill 4 drops for patients <30lb and 8 drops for patients >30lb

Claro otic or Simplera - ear medication

this medication is instilled in the clinic and lasts for up to 1 month. Pets typically won't need additional ear drops to go home.

Tresaderm - ear medication

 ear drops, instill 1-2 drops. must be refrigerated

Triz-ultra - ear cleaner

ear cleaner, used for maintenance.

Ottomax - ear drops

 ear drops, instill 1-2 drops

Baytril otic - ear drops/medication

 ear drops, instill 1-2 drops must be refrigerated
